LIVER FUNCTION TEST  | LIVER TEST IN DUBAI | LIVER TEST DUBAI

Liver function tests are essential for evaluating liver health, diagnosing liver diseases, monitoring  ongoing conditions, and assessing overall organ function. Interpretation of these results should be done  by a healthcare professional in the context of an individual's medical history and other diagnostic  findings.

1. Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT):

ALT is an enzyme found predominantly in the liver. Elevated ALT levels  can indicate liver damage or inflammation, often caused by conditions such as hepatitis or alcohol abuse.

2. Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST):

AST is another enzyme present in the liver, but it's also found in other  organs like the heart and muscles. Elevated AST levels can signal liver damage or injury.

3. Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP):

ALP is an enzyme produced by the liver and bones. Elevated levels can  indicate liver or bone disorders. It's often used in conjunction with other tests to determine the source  of elevated liver enzymes.

4. Gamma-Glutyl Transferase(GGT):

Elevated GGT levels can be seen in liver diseases and can also be  influenced by alcohol consumption.

5. Bilirubin:

Bilirubin is a waste product formed when red blood cells break down. Elevated bilirubin levels  can lead to jaundice and indicate liver dysfunction.

6. Albumin:

Low albumin levels can suggest liver damage or disease and may also indicate problems with  nutrition and overall health.

7. Total Protein:

This test measures the total amount of protein in the blood, including albumin and  globulins. Changes in total protein levels can reflect liver and kidney function, as well as nutritional  status.

8. Prothrombin Time (PT) and International Normalized Ratio (INR):

The liver produces proteins necessary  for proper blood clotting, so abnormal PT and INR results can suggest liver dysfunction.

9. Ammonia Levels:

Elevated ammonia levels can indicate impaired liver function, as the liver plays a role in  converting ammonia to urea for excretion.

10. Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH):

LDH is an enzyme found in many tissues, including the liver. Elevated LDH  levels can be seen in various liver diseases and conditions affecting other organs.

11. C-reactive Protein (CRP):

Although not specific to the liver, elevated CRP levels can suggest inflammation,  which could be related to liver inflammation or other systemic conditions.

12. Viral Hepatitis Markers (HBV and HCV):

These tests detect markers of viral hepatitis infections (Hepatitis  B and C), which are common causes of liver damage and disease.

13. Autoimmune Markers: Tests for autoantibodies can help diagnose autoimmune liver diseases such as  autoimmune hepatitis or primary biliary cirrhosis.
